Data sources

Aircraft performance data

Aircraft types, performance characteristics, and specs come from the openscope project:

• 140+ aircraft types with speeds, climb rates, turn rates, and wake categories

Aeronautical data

Airspace definitions, waypoints, navaids, and procedures from these databases:

• FAA NASR - National Airspace System Resources
  • US waypoints, navaids (VORs, NDBs), and airways
• FAA CIFP - Coded Instrument Flight Procedures
  • SIDs, STARs, and approach procedures for US airports
• OurAirports - ourairports.com - global airport and navaid database
• ARTCC Boundaries - FAA center geographic definitions
• VATSPY Data Project - github.com/vatsimnetwork/vatspy-data-project
  • Worldwide FIR boundary polygons for international airspace definitions
  • License: CC-BY-SA-4.0, maintained by the VATSIM community

Weather data

Real-time weather observations for tower mode:

• AviationWeather.gov - aviationweather.gov
  • METAR observations from NOAA's Aviation Weather Center (public domain)
• D-ATIS - datis.clowd.io
  • Digital ATIS text aggregated from FAA sources

Airport surface data

Airport layouts (taxiways, gates, runways) for tower mode come from OpenStreetMap:

• Surface geometry for 300+ airports worldwide
